You can also find iMovie 06 on the iLife 06 install disc. You can buy iLife 06 on Amazon or eBay. But be prepared to pay about double the cost of iLife 09 but well worth every penny. Seller's are becoming aware of its value.

I have a "previous systems" folder but it is empty. Apparently in my case it did over-write im08, unless it's somewhere hidden.
I do have a time capsule, so it's not gone for good. You could export from im06 to AIC to preserve transitions and effects but they will no longer be editable. I'm surprised imovie 08 has disappeared, download older version of imovie, I can't say I've ever installed them in the order that you have but installing im08 over im06 doesn't delete it. Installing iMovie HD 6 - will create problems with iLife'08 or 09 Way to do it is as Bev written here and in iM'09 forum several times. Install iLife 6 and update iMovie to 6. Now install iLife 08 or 09 and iMovie HD 6 will be left OK in folder "iMovie Previous version" Please use the search function - and You wouldn't run into this mine.
